The Cellar of Eguilles is situated in the very centre of this picturesque village in Provence. Thus, it benefits from an exceptional sun-exposition.
The Cooperative Cellar « le Cellier d'Eguilles » taking root in the centre of the village, was created in 1923 by Lucien Fauchier. Both lettered man and field man, he gave the first impulse to our cultivation of wine by being accompanied with about 90 founder members who were the first bringers.
The Cooperative was born in 1923 with a capacity of 8,000 hectolitres. It became larger and larger as the years went by until 1962. In 1971, with the building of a more modern cellar, we got an additional capacity of wine-making.
In 1944, a new shop for selling was created on Father Sylvain Giraud Avenue. Finally, in 2013, works aiming at embellishing the shop definitely improved the reception of the customers.
The vineyard of 230 hectares is divided between the town of Eguilles -overhung by the magnificent castle of the Boyers d'Eguilles – and the city of Aix-en-Provence, famous thanks to Roy René and to the painter Cézanne.
Our annual production amounts to 13,000 hectolitres. In this production, 9,000 hectolitres consist in AOP Coteaux d'Aix (...) wines and 4,000 hectolitres in AGP Boûches-du-Rhônes and Méditerranée.
The Cooperative produces terroir wines, grown and cured in our cellars with the greatest attention. This is the reason why we are regularly rewarded with medals during the most prestigious wine contests.
For more than 20 years, regular efforts have been made by our cultivators to improve their vineyards and to adapt the grape varieties to the evolution of the demand and hence, to produce quality wines.
A wine-maker from the Cooperative Institute of Wine and a wine technician select the plots, participate in the organization of the grape-gathering and in the elaboration of the vintages with the objective of an always more qualitative production.
All these efforts enabled the Cellar to get involved in a certification program. From now on, it illustrates in an environmental approach with drastic specifications.
It promotes reasoned agriculture respectful of the watering spots , of the environmental landscape and of the preservation of the hedges
Therefore, that explains why the « Cellier d'Eguilles »has been part of the eguillean heritage for a long time now. Its vineyard, the quality of its wines, the men and the women who animate it, have been esteemed and honored for nearly more than a century.
